PDF Toolkit Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 27, 2026

Overview

PDF Toolkit ("the Extension") is a browser extension that processes PDF and image files entirely within your browser. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

The short version: Your files never leave your device. We don't collect, store, or transmit your documents. The only network request the Extension makes is to validate Pro license keys.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • Your files. PDF and image files are processed entirely in your browser's memory. They are never uploaded to any server.
  • Browsing history. The Extension does not track which websites you visit.
  • Personal information. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other personally identifiable information through the Extension itself.
  • Analytics or telemetry. The Extension does not include any analytics, tracking pixels, or telemetry of any kind.

Data Stored Locally

The Extension stores the following data in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device unless explicitly noted:

  • Usage counter. A count of daily operations performed, used to enforce free-tier limits.
  • License information. If you activate a Pro license, your license key and activation instance ID are stored locally to verify your subscription status.

Network Requests

The Extension makes network requests only in the following circumstance:

  • License validation. When you activate or re-validate a Pro license key, the Extension sends your license key to the Lemon Squeezy License API (api.lemonsqueezy.com) to confirm its validity. This request contains only the license key and an instance identifier — no files, no browsing data, and no personal information beyond what you provided to Lemon Squeezy when purchasing.

Free-tier users generate zero network requests.

Permissions

The Extension requests the following browser permissions:

  • storage — To save your license status and usage counter locally.
  • activeTab — To interact with the current tab when triggered by user action. This permission is narrowly scoped and does not grant persistent access.
  • downloads (optional) — To save processed PDF files to your downloads folder. Requested only when needed.

Third-Party Services

The only third-party service the Extension communicates with is:

  • Lemon Squeezy (lemonsqueezy.com) — Payment processing and license key validation for Pro subscribers. Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy is available at lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.

Data Retention

Usage counter data is automatically pruned after 30 days. License data is stored until you deactivate your license or uninstall the Extension. Uninstalling removes all locally stored data.

Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Your Rights

You can delete all Extension data at any time by:

  • Right-clicking the Extension icon and clearing its data, or
  • Uninstalling the Extension from chrome://extensions.

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the GDPR. Since the Extension does not collect personal data on any server, these rights are inherently satisfied.

Limited Use Disclosure

The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data obtained through Chrome APIs is used solely to provide the Extension's core PDF processing functionality. No data is transferred to third parties except to Lemon Squeezy for license validation. No human reads user data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
